‘Growing demand’ sees Emerald Airlines operate new service between Cork and Glasgow

November 3, 2024 by

A NEW service between Cork Airport and Glasgow Airport has been announced to meet the ‘growing demand’ for travel between Ireland and Scotland.

The four-times weekly service will be operated by Emerald Airlines on behalf of Aer Lingus Regional on a year-round basis and complements the airline’s existing services from Glasgow to Dublin and Belfast.

Flights will depart Glasgow at 8.25am on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, with departures from Cork on the same days at 10.35am.

“We are excited to officially launch our Glasgow to Cork service,” said Ian Lough, Head of Commercial at Emerald Airlines.

“This significant expansion reflects our commitment to meeting the growing demand for travel between Scotland and Ireland.

“We have already seen an uptick in bookings, indicating a strong interest in this service.

“We look forward to welcoming passengers aboard and ensuring they have a memorable journey with us.”

Fares will start from €34.99 / £34.99 with 72 seats available on the ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft being deployed for the route.

‘Key gateway’

A statement from Cork Airport said the service will allow travellers from Ireland to experience Glasgow’s ‘vibrant nightlife, impressive architecture, intriguing museums and superb shopping centres’.

Meanwhile, a statement from Glasgow Airport said passengers flying into Cork can sample the city’s ‘unique blend of historic charm, vibrant arts scene and diverse culinary offerings’.

It added: “Cork is a key gateway to the stunning countryside and coastal landscapes of southern Ireland, ideal for both short getaways and extended trips.”

In addition to the new Cork-Glasgow route, Aer Lingus Regional has also increased capacity on its service between Cork and Bristol by adding three extra flights per week.

“Glasgow is a very welcome addition to our UK Provincial network and complements our existing Edinburgh service,” said Tara Flynn of Cork Airport.

“Glasgow has so much to offer — it’s rich history, vibrant arts and music scene, fantastic food, and great shopping experiences.

“It’s also great to see the addition of more services to Bristol, and I’d like to thank Emerald Airlines for their continued growth at Cork Airport.”

The new service was officially launched this week and flights can be booked at www.aerlingus.com
