Mother and baby home survivors urged to have to their say before panel deadline

March 13, 2025 by

SURVIVORS of mother and baby homes, magdalene laundries and workhouses in Northern Ireland are being urged to share their experiences with the Northern Ireland Truth Recovery Independent Panel.

The panel is seeking contributions from survivors on their experiences in the institutions to help establish a better understanding of practices that were undertaken within them.

Currently, the panel is calling on survivors to provide their accounts before May 1, 2025.

KRW Law, which represents a number of survivors of these institutions, has called on those who have not yet had their say to do so before the deadline.

“We are urging all victims to come forward and share their experiences with the Northern Ireland Truth Recovery Independent Panel,” they said in a statement.

“This panel is aimed at addressing the historical injustices faced by countless individuals,” they explained

“It is an opportunity for victims to have their voices heard, their stories acknowledged, and their pain validated.”

They added: “By coming forward, victims can also contribute to a collective effort to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated.

“We understand that the decision to come forward can be daunting.

“Many victims have carried the weight of their experiences in silence for years, and the prospect of revisiting those memories may be overwhelming.

“However, it is important to remember that you are not alone.”

The deadline to contribute to the panel is May 1, 2025.
