TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who died in a weather-related incident in Co. Donegal during Storm Amy.
The man has been named locally as Tommy Connors, who was aged in his 40s.
Mr Connors passed away following the incident at a property in Letterkenny on Friday afternoon while a Status Red wind warning was in place for Co. Donegal.
In a statement, gardaí said they responded to a ‘weather-related incident’ in Letterkenny at 4.15pm on Friday.
A later update from gardaí confirmed that a man in his 40s had been fatally injured.
His body was removed to the morgue at Letterkenny University Hospital, where a post mortem was due to be carried out.
In a statement on Facebook, the Letterkenny Community Development Project offered their condolences to the family of Mr Connors.
“We at Letterkenny CDP would like to convey our deepest sympathies to the Connors family on the passing of their brother Tommy Connors in a tragic accident during the Storm yesterday,” they wrote.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.”
Meanwhile, a relative of Mr Connors posted online, saying he ‘didn’t deserve any of this mortal sin’ and that he will ‘be missed big time’.
Another added: “Rest in Peace uncle Tommy, can’t believe it.”
On Friday evening. ESB Network said that around 184,000 properties were without power across the country as Storm Amy hit.
The majority have since had supply restored, with only 13,000 remaining without power on Saturday night.
