Two arrested after early-morning arson attack in Co. Down

April 1, 2026 by

TWO people have been arrested after an early-morning arson attack on a house in Co. Down.

At around 1.15am today, a window was smashed and a petrol bomb thrown into the property in the Manse Court area of Saintfield, causing it to catch fire.

Police and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) attended the scene and rescued a woman from the residence.

After earlier appealing for witnesses, police revealed they had now detained two people in connection with the investigation.

“A man aged in his 40s and a woman aged in her 30s have been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life,” said a spokesperson for the PSNI.

“They both remain in police custody at this time.”
