DUBLIN AIRPORT has recorded its busiest month in its history as passenger numbers soared this summer.
More than 3.8m people travelled through the airport in July newly released figures reveal.
A total of 3,839,635 passengers made it the busiest month in Dublin Airport’s history.
“The summer holiday season is now in full swing, with almost four million passengers travelling through Dublin Airport last month as families made the most of the school holidays and visitors from around the world came to experience our unique Irish hospitality,” Dublin Airport’s Managing Director Gary McLean said.
More than 100,000 passengers travelled through the airport every day in July.
The busiest day of the month was July 12, when 133,472 people passed through the airport.
Factors deemed contributory to the high passenger numbers last month include the school summer holidays, the final games of the World Cup 2026 tournament and the start of Ireland’s EU Presidency.
“July’s performance reflected the peak summer holiday season, with schools closed for the summer and large numbers of families travelling overseas,” a Dublin Airport spokesperson said.
‘The closing stages of the FIFA World Cup also drove demand from passengers from across the UK and Europe, who availed of Dublin Airport’s US Preclearance facilities and extensive US route network to connect to North America,” they added.
“And July also saw the start of Ireland’s six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union, with Dublin Airport playing an important role as the first point of welcome for many international delegations visiting Ireland from across Europe.”
Mr McLean explained that on average around 123k passengers walked through Dublin Airport’s doors every day of July.
“That’s the equivalent of one and a half times the capacity of Croke Park on All-Ireland final day passing through the airport in just one day, every day last month,” he said.
“This high level of traffic is now the norm during the peak summer period,” he added.
“With demand showing no sign of abating in August, there’s another busy month ahead.”
