CROWDS were out in force last night to view the first solar eclipse visible in Ireland in more than ten years.
The solar eclipse pictured from the Curragh Plains in KildareThe partial solar eclipse covered more than 90 per cent of the sun and was visible across Ireland and England in the early evening.
The last time a solar eclipse was visible in Ireland was in 2015.
The public gathered across Ireland to share the rare natural occurrence, which saw the skies darken as the moon covered the sun.
Viewers used telescopes, special eclipse glasses and homemade viewing devices in order to be able to observe the eclipse safely.
People view the eclipse through a telescope from the vistors’ centre in the Phoenix ParkCrowds gathered at Phoenix Park in Dublin and on the Curragh Plains in Kildare.
Fans at Croke Park watched the eclipse before the Leeds and Manchester United friendly got underway, and viewing events were also held at the Dunsink Observatory in Dublin, Armagh Observatory and at Blackrock Castle in Cork.
A team of Irish and Italian scientists even took to the skies yesterday to study the eclipse from a flying observatory.
