Man dies and five people injured in two separate collisions in Tipperary

A PENSIONER has died following a collision in Co. Tipperary. The driver, who was aged in his 70s, was seriously injured in the single vehicle collision on the R660 at Holycross at around 2.15pm on February 7. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital following a collision in Co. Louth. Woman arrested after heroin and cannabis worth €1.7m seized in Carlow

DRUGS with a suspected street value of more than €1.7m have been seized in Carlow. Gardaí from the Carlow Drugs Unit stopped and searched a car in the town on February 8 and found suspected heroin and cannabis worth an estimated €136k inside the vehicle. After the start of the Irish Rebellion of 1798 on May 24, the United Irishmen were defeated by British forces on this day in 1798. Historically known as the Battle of Vinegar Hill, almost 1,000 rebels lost their lives in this battle, which marked a turning point and eventual loss in the Rebellion of 1798.
