SIR Patrick Duffy KSG, believed to have been the oldest living former parliamentarian in these islands, has died peacefully aged 105. Anniversary appeal for information on man who disappeared 20 years ago today

POLICE have issued an anniversary appeal over a man who went missing 20 years ago today. Martin Kelly was last seen on New Year’s Day in 2006 in Belfast, where he had watched a football match at a bar with friends. He hasn’t been seen since. The Co. Call for NI Executive to make ‘doing their job’ their New Year’s resolution

POLITICAL ‘in-fighting’ must be brought to an end in Northern Ireland this year, the SDLP’s Claire Hanna has said. Charles Stewart Parnell, often referred to as the “Uncrowned King of Ireland” prior to his downfall, died on this day in 1891 after returning to Dublin from exile. Parnell died at the age of only 45 years from a heart attack at his home at 10 Walsingham Terrace, Hove, Dublin. Around 20,000 people attended his funeral service at Glasnevin Cemetery. Parnell was the founder of the Irish Parliament Party and one of Ireland’s most important nationalist leaders of the 19th century.
