Police name man who died in Co. Antrim collision

POLICE have named a man who died in a Co. Antrim collision involving a car and a pedestrian as 24-year-old Jamie Mitchell from Portrush. FAI votes in favour of motion calling for ‘immediate suspension’ of Israel from European football

Ireland’s unemployment rate at 5% as youth joblessness reaches four-year high

IRELAND'S unemployment rate remained at 5% in October, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), as the number of people out of work edged higher compared with last year. PSNI launch hate crime investigation after Alliance HQ vandalised

POLICE have launched a hate crime investigation after graffiti was sprayed on the Alliance Party’s headquarters in what officers are treating as a sectarian-motivated incident. October 9, 1834

Ireland’s first public railroad, the Dublin and Kingstown Railway, was opened on this day in 1834. After founding and laying the first tracks in 1831, a short delay occurred in the building due to opposition from some landowners, the laying of tracks over an embankment, and the creation of the Booterstown Marsh. The first train departed on October 9, consisting of eight cars pulled by the “Hibernia.” The railway line was eventually expanded.
