Man arrested after £120,000 worth of cannabis seized in Co. Armagh

A MAN has been arrested after police seized around £120,000 worth of cannabis in Co. Armagh. Millions in overpayments uncovered in Ireland’s asylum accommodation system

A STATE audit has uncovered millions of euros in overpayments made to private providers under the International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS). According to a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG), IPAS was overcharged €7.4m in VAT by a provider operating multiple properties using three different VAT numbers. Taoiseach ‘deeply saddened’ by death of Irish author Manchán Magan

AUTHOR Manchán Magan has died at the age of 55 following a battle with cancer. The Dublin-born writer, documentary-maker and Irish language advocate was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2023. Ireland’s first public railroad, the Dublin and Kingstown Railway, was opened on this day in 1834. After founding and laying the first tracks in 1831, a short delay occurred in the building due to opposition from some landowners, the laying of tracks over an embankment, and the creation of the Booterstown Marsh. The first train departed on October 9, consisting of eight cars pulled by the “Hibernia.” The railway line was eventually expanded.
