Man from Co. Derry jailed over ‘horrendous’ child cruelty offences

A man from Co. Derry has been jailed for five counts of cruelty to children. The 55-year-old was sentenced at Newry Crown Court on Friday and will serve four years in prison and four years on licence. Woman in her 60s dies following Co. Antrim collision

A woman has died following a two-vehicle collision in Co. Antrim on Friday afternoon. Avril Seeds, 61, died at the scene of the incident in Newtownabbey on the outskirts of Belfast. June 30, 1932

On this day, Eamon de Valera abolished the Oath of Allegiance, a provisional aspect in the Anglo-Irish treaty of 1921. This provisional aspect originally required all members of the Irish parliament to take an oath declaring their allegiance to the King. This date also marked when de Valera withheld land annuities from England.
