A MAN has been arrested after almost €2m in gold and cash, as well as a large quantity of suspected drugs, were seized in the Dublin region. €1.4m in gold bullion, €460,000 in cash and €210,000 in suspected cocaine were found following a search of residential and business premises on Friday and Saturday. Man from Co. Derry jailed over ‘horrendous’ child cruelty offences

A man from Co. Derry has been jailed for five counts of cruelty to children. The 55-year-old was sentenced at Newry Crown Court on Friday and will serve four years in prison and four years on licence. Woman in her 60s dies following Co. Antrim collision

A woman has died following a two-vehicle collision in Co. Antrim on Friday afternoon. Avril Seeds, 61, died at the scene of the incident in Newtownabbey on the outskirts of Belfast. Forrest Reid, Irish novelist and literary critic, was born on this day in Belfast in 1875. To this day, Reid is regarded amongst the likes of J.M. Barrie and Hugh Walpole as a pre-war British boyhood novelist. His most famous work was Young Tom, for which he won a James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1944.
