ISRAEL has announced it is to close its embassy in Dublin, accusing the Irish Government of 'extreme anti-Israel policies'. TWO men who were involved in a plot to plant firearms and ammunition in a bid to reduce a crime boss' prison term have been sentenced. Tributes paid after popular doctor dies in Co. Mayo collision

TRIBUTES have been paid following the death of a popular doctor in a road traffic collision in Co. Mayo. Denis Johnston, Irish playwright and protege of W.B. Yeats and George Bernard Shaw, was born on this day in 1901. Johnston’s first play, “The Old Lady Says No!” helped establish his career as a playwright. “The Moon in the Yellow River” (1931) is perhaps his most well known play.
