More than 600 new prison spaces to be created to hold ‘those who cause damage and misery’ in Ireland

A FUNDING injection of £93m will see 670 additional prison spaces created in Ireland it was confirmed today. Three deaths on Irish roads over bank holiday weekend brings total fatalities to 58 this year

Man appears in court over alleged assault and endangerment at Donegal heritage site

A MAN has appeared in court in Donegal charged in connection with an alleged assault and endangerment in the county over the weekend. Tributes to cyclist killed in collision with car as funeral set to take place

A CYCLIST who was killed in a collision with a car in Kildare will be laid to rest tomorrow. Gar Fennelly, of Bennekerry in Co. Carlow, died when the bicycle he was riding collided with a car at Knocknagee at around 11.20am on Easter Sunday (March 31). Bill Doolin, famous western outlaw of Irish descent, escaped from jail on this day in 1896. Born in Arkansas, Doolin went west and worked several jobs as a cowboy on Oklahoma ranches. He eventually became a member of the Dalton gang, who attempted several robberies. In 1892, Doolin formed his own gang called the Wild Bunch, which became the most infamous outlaw group of the west at that time. Doolin was eventually shot and killed by U.S. Marshal Heck Thomas.
