Belfast man jailed for possession of explosive devices

A MAN has been jailed after pleading guilty to possessing explosives that were discovered during a police search. Patrick McCann, 42, from Belfast was sentenced today having previously pleaded guilty to four counts of possession of explosives in suspicious circumstances. JUSTICE MINISTER Helen McEntee has said it is fortunate there were no fatalities after 14 people were discovered in a refrigerated lorry that arrived by ferry at Rosslare Port. Protestant William of Orange and his forces defeated Catholic James II on this day in 1690 at Battle of the Boyne. William’s victory rendered James II’s attempt to regain the British throne unsuccessful and allowed for a continuation of Protestant ascendancy in Ireland. The battle was fought across the River Boyne near Drogheda. July 12 is also known as “The Twelfth” or “Orange Day” in Belfast.
