Extra daily ferry service added to route connecting Ireland and Wales

AN extra daily ferry service linking Ireland and Wales will be launched this week. The news comes as Holyhead Port remains closed due to damage caused by Storm Darragh to two if its berths. €100 fee for popular Irish obituary website takes effect this month

A CHARGE of €100 per death notice posted on RIP.ie will take effect this month. The fee has been imposed by new owners, The Irish Times Group, who acquired the online death notice platform in May 2024. Founded in 2005, by the Co. Funeral confirmed for couple killed in St Stephen’s Day collision

THE funeral details have been confirmed for a couple who died after being struck by a car on St Stephen’s Day. Dubliners Anto and Georgina Hogg (née Moore) died after being involved in the hit-and-run collision in Blanchardstown. Drivers urged to ‘wise up’ after 68 deaths on Northern Ireland’s roads

DRIVERS in Northern Ireland have been urged to ‘wise up’ on the roads this year to prevent ‘avoidable deaths’. PSNI figures reveal 68 people were killed in collisions in the North in 2024, including one child. Among those who died, eight were pedestrians, 12 were passengers and 38 were drivers. The Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia, which began on April 30, ended on this day. Union General Hooker suffered defeat and retreated as a result of Lee’s brilliant tactics. Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded by his own soldiers. Union losses were 17,000 killed, wounded and missing out of 130,000. The Confederates lost 13,000 out of 60,000. Lee’s forces were outnumbered two to one. The Battle of Chancellorsville was depicted in the 2003 film Gods and Generals, based on the novel of the same name by Jeffrey Shaara.The battle is also the background in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story, “The Night at Chancellorsville,” and Stephen Crane’s 1895 novel “The Red Badge of Courage,” made into a movie by John Huston and featuring Medalof Honor winner Audie Murphy.
