Fans launch petition to bring back London Irish Rugby Club

Irishman celebrates 90th birthday by completing 165km Famine walk

AN IRISHMAN has celebrated turning 90 by completing a 165km walk across Ireland in memory of those forced to flee the country during the Great Famine. Jim Callery completed the National Famine Way walk, which runs from Strokestown in Co. Roscommon to Dublin, yesterday, which is also his 90th birthday. 329 passengers were killed in a plane crash off the coast of Ireland. Air India flight 182 was en route from Montreal to Dehli, when it was blown up in Irish airspace by a bomb. Investigation into the flight led Canadian officials to believe that a Sikh militant group called Babbar Khalsa was responsible for the bombing. 280 Canadian citizens, 27 British citizens and 22 Indian citizens were lost, resulting in the largest mass murder in modern Canadian history. A monument remembering the event was unveiled in 1986 in Ahakista, Cork.
