A GARDA was hospitalised after being assaulted by a disruptive passenger who arrived in Dublin on a flight from the US. Witness appeal after deaths of two people in Galway house fire

GARDAÍ have appealed for witnesses to come forward after two people died in a house fire in Connemara, Co. Galway. BBC to restrict overseas access to BBC Sounds, cutting off Irish listeners

THE BBC has confirmed it will block international access to its BBC Sounds platform in 2025, ending online availability of its radio stations, including BBC Radio Ulster and Radio Foyle, for listeners in the Republic of Ireland. Richard Satchwell sentenced to life for murder of wife Tina

Ombudsman says ‘no misconduct’ in how PSNI officers removed young autistic woman from shop

The British ocean liner Lusitania was sunk by a German u-boat off the coast of Ireland, about 14 miles off the Old Head of Kinsale. The ship sank in 18 minutes and though there were enough lifeboats aboard, the severity prevented them from being launched. Of the 1,959 passengers on board, 1,198 drowned, 128 of them U.S. citizens. The death toll shocked the world and proved the impetus for America to enter WWI. The Germans contended that they only fired because the ship was carrying munitions. In 2008 a diving team explored the wreck and found millions of U.S. made Remington bullets which would seem to support that theory.
