Hungarian police arrest Irishman in connection with death of American tourist

POLICE in Hungary say they have arrested an Irishman in connection with the death of an American tourist in Budapest. Man who assaulted peacemaker attempting to intervene in altercation is jailed

A MAN who seriously assaulted another man as he attempted to intervene in an altercation has been jailed. James Cooney, 40, attacked the victim with a hammer and a trowel as he tried to diffuse a situation involving Cooney and another man. Teenage boy dies following hit-and-run incident in Co. Kildare

A TEENAGE boy has died following a hit-and-run incident in Co. Kildare in the early hours of this morning. The collision, involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, occurred at around 12.30am on the R403 in Blackwood, near Robertstown. Riots broke out in Londonderry after mid-Ulster MP Bernadette Devlin was arrested. Devlin, who participated in the Bogside riots of 1969, was sentenced to six months in jail. She had previously applied for an appeal, which was rejected by the Northern Ireland Court of Appeals. When police attempted to arrest Devlin at a roadblock in Londonderry, violence quickly escalated with the use of petrol bombs to which soldiers responded with tear gas.
