Man in his 80s dies in Co. Westmeath collision

A MAN in his 80s has died following a two-vehicle collision in Co. Westmeath. The incident occurred on the R394 at Gartlandstown, Castlepollard at around 5.30am on Wednesday, July 3. Dublin is second most expensive city in Europe to build apartments

A NEW report has claimed that Dublin is the second most expensive city in Europe in which to build apartments. The Building Homes report, from Trinity College Dublin and the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland, said of 10 cities surveyed, only Zurich was more expensive than the Irish capital. Fermanagh man jailed over historical abuse

A MAN has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison after being found guilty of a series of historical assaults. Ronan Farrell, 60, denied nine counts of indecent assault against a child between 1982 and 1984. Ireland’s Crown Jewels are found missing on this day in 1907, just before days before a state visit by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The theft remains a mystery to this day. Arthur Vicars, Officer of Arms at Dublin Castle, held the jewels in his office and publicly accused his second in command, Francis Shackleton. Shackleton was exonerated and the case was never solved. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used this historical event as the influence for his Sherlock Holmes story “The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans.”
