The eighth annual National University Ireland, Galway Gala Dinner took place in November at the Metropolitan Club in New York. Failte Ireland have launched a new campaign called “Meet in Ireland,” to support corporate tourism. One of these initiatives is the Conference Ambassador Program, which rewards people who bring their corporate meeting to Ireland. Bill Doolin, famous western outlaw of Irish descent, escaped from jail on this day in 1896. Born in Arkansas, Doolin went west and worked several jobs as a cowboy on Oklahoma ranches. He eventually became a member of the Dalton gang, who attempted several robberies. In 1892, Doolin formed his own gang called the Wild Bunch, which became the most infamous outlaw group of the west at that time. Doolin was eventually shot and killed by U.S. Marshal Heck Thomas.
