Ed Burns

Movie Maker

Filmmaker, scriptwriter, producer, director and actor Ed Burns attracted a lot of attention since his quirky off-beat movie The Brothers McMullen, which has grossed more than $10 million to date, became a success.

Filmed in his native Long Island, New York, on a budget of $20,000, the movie took the Sundance Film Festival of storm last year. And last month, Burns, 28, won the Screenwriter of the Year Award at the National Association of Theater Operators/Show West ’96 exhibitors trade show for his movie.

This summer, his second film, She’s the One, which he also wrote, produced, directed and starred in, will be released. This movie is also based on an Irish American family in New York, and the word is that Los Angeles test audiences loved it. His third project, Krackers, gets underway in the fall.
