Jim Dwyer
Pulitzer Prize Winner
Journalist and author Jim Dwyer’s unique talent with words has brought him to the pinnacle of his career and earned him a Pulitzer Prize. The prize was awarded last year in the category of commentary for a series of ten articles on subjects as diverse as Northern Ireland. AIDS, and an obscure 19th-century pipe inspector, Dwyer said.
As an entertaining and thought-provoking columnist for New York Newsday, Dwyer covered the lives of New Yorkers as they went underground with his highly acclaimed series on the subway, which later became a successful book, Subway Lives.
Dwyer is a first-generation Irish American, with parents from Counties Galway and Kerry, and has devoted much space to writings and observations about events in Ireland. He was in Belfast to cover the IRA ceasefire, one of his many visits to that country.
He and his wife, Cathy have two daughters, Maura and Catherine.
