Peter King
Congressman
Indomitable when it comes to what is known as “the Irish question,” Congressman Peter King has impeccable credentials.
As a Republican from New York, he is totally bipartisan when it comes to getting the job done. When it was extremely unfashionable to be supportive of Irish republicans, King was always there. When Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams first entered the U.S., King was there to greet him.
A graduate of Notre Dame law school, King began his career in politics where he grew up – in Long Island, New York. After three terms as comptroller of Nassau County, he successfully ran for the House of Representatives in 1992. He immediately made his presence known among the Irish lobby, and currently serves on the House Committee, Friends of Ireland.
His other policies are equally popular with the electorate: despite having meager campaign funds compared to his opponents, King pulled 59 percent of the vote in the last Congressional election.
