The latest dashing, debonair James Bond to hit the big screen in Goldeneye looks set to inhabit the role of the infamous spy for some time given the success of the movie.
Pierce Brosnan, probably best known for his work in the successful TV series Remington Steele, progressed to the big screen by starring with Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire and with Warren Beatty and Annette Bening in Love Affair.
A native of County Meath in Ireland, Brosnan’s family moved to London when he was 11 years old. He became interested in acting after taking some preliminary workshops in experimental theater, and later studied at the Drama Center for three years.
A widower who lost his wife noted actress Cassandra Harris, to ovarian cancer a couple of years ago, Brosnan has three children. He is now dating journalist Keely Shaye-Smith.
Brosnan is under contract to produce two more James Bond movies, and said Goldeneye is very significant in his life. “Things come around in life and doors open, and you have to be prepared to walk through them. There was a certain amount of fear, but I think we’ve made a very good film,” he said.
Active in Hollywood’s main charity group, the Permanent Charities Committee of the Entertainment Industries, Brosnan serves as Ambassador for Women’s Health Issues.
