POLICE have named a man who died in a collision in Co. Tyrone this morning as 29-year-old Eoin Lynch from Castlederg. A MAN who seriously assaulted another man as he attempted to intervene in an altercation has been jailed. James Cooney, 40, attacked the victim with a hammer and a trowel as he tried to diffuse a situation involving Cooney and another man. Teenage boy dies following hit-and-run incident in Co. Kildare

A TEENAGE boy has died following a hit-and-run incident in Co. Kildare in the early hours of this morning. The collision, involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, occurred at around 12.30am on the R403 in Blackwood, near Robertstown. Denis Johnston, Irish playwright and protege of W.B. Yeats and George Bernard Shaw, was born on this day in 1901. Johnston’s first play, “The Old Lady Says No!” helped establish his career as a playwright. “The Moon in the Yellow River” (1931) is perhaps his most well known play.
