Tánaiste urges travellers to say safe as record number of Irish people die abroad

IRISH travellers are being urged to stay safe while on holiday as new figures show a record number of fatalities were recorded abroad last year. Some 381 Irish people died abroad in 2023, new figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs show. Tributes paid to young man killed in Sligo collision

TRIBUTES have been paid to a young man who was killed in a collision in Sligo over the weekend. James McNeive, of Knock in Co. Mayo, died on Sunday, August 4 when the van he was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry shortly after 6am on the N15 at Urlar, Drumcliffe. Following his win in the California and South Dakota primaries, presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy made a speech addressing his campaign supporters at the Ambassador Hotel in LA, California. In an effort to make it to a press conference on time, Kennedy decided to pass through the kitchen, where he was shot by Sirhan Bishara Sirhan. He sustained three gun shot wounds and was immediately rushed to The Good Samaritan Hospital. Despite surgery, Kennedy died the next morning on June 6, 1968.
