POLICE have reissued an appeal to find an Irishman who has been missing from his home since Friday. Farmer Michael Gaine was reported missing from Kenmare in Co. Kerry on March 21. Threats which saw schools closed across Northern Ireland confirmed as a ‘hoax’

A THREATENING email sent to nine schools in Northern Ireland has been confirmed by police to have been a ‘hoax’. Three schools in Strabane in Co. Tyrone, three schools in Ballycastle, Co., Antrim and three schools in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh received the email yesterday morning. PSNI officers were called to each school to engage with staff. On this day in 1997, the British government deployed the SAS, or the Special Air Service corps of the British Army, in Mid-Ulster, Northern Ireland. The goal was to prevent another Loyalist Volunteer Force riot, while IRA commanders met in Tyrone to put in motion the plan to continue the Provo ceasefire.
