POLICE have said they are treating an incident in Co. Tyrone in which a man was verbally abused, assaulted and had his phone taken as a racially-motivated hate crime. Arrest after man dies following early morning disturbance in Co. Cork

GARDAÍ have made an arrest after a man died following a disturbance in Co. Cork in the early hours of this morning. The incident occurred in Hollyville, Hollyhill, Cork City at around 4.30am. GARDAÍ have confirmed there have been a 'number of fatalities' following a road traffic collision in Co. Louth. Woman in her 60s dies following house fire in Co. Offaly

A WOMAN in her 60s has died following a house fire in Co. Offaly. The incident occurred at around 10pm on Friday at the property in Moneygall on the Offaly/Tipperary border. Oliver Cromwell was made Lord Protector of Ireland on this date in 1653. Following the English Civil War, his victory in overthrowing the Stuart monarchy and the execution of King James I, English Parliament declared Cromwell “Lord Protector” in England’s first attempt at a state ruled government. He held this position for five years (1653-58) of the eleven years in which England remained a republican Commonwealth government. Cromwell had a detrimental effect on Ireland in these years. He led an invasion of Ireland from 1649-1650. The public practice of Catholicism was banned and all Catholic owned land was confiscated.
