Excise duty cuts on diesel and petrol take effect in Ireland

A REDUCTION of excise duty on petrol and diesel has come into effect in Ireland. As of  yesterday (April 1), a pause is in place on the National Oil Reserves Agency (NORA) levy, which will mean effective cuts of 22 cent and 17 cent on diesel and petrol respectively when coupled with a reduction on fuels costs that came into effect last week. Ireland commits €40m in humanitarian aid to support Ukraine in Russian conflict

IRELAND has confirmed €40m in humanitarian funding for Ukraine in response to the ongoing conflict with Russia. Cyclist dies after collision involving truck in Dublin

A MAN has died after a collision involving a truck and a cyclist in Dublin this afternoon. The incident occurred shortly before 1pm at the junction of Middle Abbey Street and O'Connell Street in the city centre. Grace’s Law banning scramblers in all public places to come into effect on Friday

Edward Augustine Walsh was born in Pennsylvania to a family of Irish immigrants. At age 12, he began working in the coal fields. He grew to be 6′.1″ and at 193 lbs became known at “Big Ed.” In 1902, urged on by a friend, he tried out for the Wilkes-Barre baseball team. He joined the Chicago White Sox in 1904, becoming one of the top pitchers in the American league. Walsh is known for his spitball, which is now illegal. After his career ended, he coached the White Sox for several years and then coached baseball at Notre Dame University. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946. Walsh died on May 26, 1959. His son, Ed Walsh, also had a career with the White Sox.
