POLICE in Birmingham have appealed for information after three men were assaulted in a popular Irish bar in the city. The trio were assaulted in Cleary's, a traditional Irish pub in the Digbeth area, on Saturday, January 24. One of the victims was left with a fractured jaw and broken teeth following the incident. Dual Dutch-Irish national charged with firearms offences after weapons seized at Dover

A DUAL Dutch-Irish national has been charged with firearms offences after he was stopped at the Port of Dover, with police seizing a number of weapons and ammunition. Two arrested after early-morning arson attack in Co. Down

TWO people have been arrested after an early-morning arson attack on a house in Co. Down. At around 1.15am today, a window was smashed and a petrol bomb thrown into the property in the Manse Court area of Saintfield, causing it to catch fire. Boy, 16, appears in court charged with murder of man in Co. Tipperary

A TEENAGE boy has appeared in court after being charged with the murder of a man in Co. Tipperary last year. Edward Augustine Walsh was born in Pennsylvania to a family of Irish immigrants. At age 12, he began working in the coal fields. He grew to be 6′.1″ and at 193 lbs became known at “Big Ed.” In 1902, urged on by a friend, he tried out for the Wilkes-Barre baseball team. He joined the Chicago White Sox in 1904, becoming one of the top pitchers in the American league. Walsh is known for his spitball, which is now illegal. After his career ended, he coached the White Sox for several years and then coached baseball at Notre Dame University. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946. Walsh died on May 26, 1959. His son, Ed Walsh, also had a career with the White Sox.
