Investigation after teen subjected to racially-motivated assault in Belfast

POLICE are treating a report of an assault on a teenager in Belfast as a racially-motivated hate crime. The incident occurred at around 5.15pm on Monday, February 3, in Aughrim Park in the south of the city. Three arrests made after gardaí seize drugs valued at €14m

THREE men have been arrested after gardaí seized drugs with an estimated total value of more than €14m. Approximately 182kg of cocaine and 4kg of cannabis herb were seized during searches in Mountmellick, Co. Laois and a number of other locations on Tuesday. On this day in 1014, 88-year-old High King Brian Bóruma mac Cennétig (Brian Boru, in English) defeated the Vikings, the King of Leinster, and the Dublin Norse in the Battle of Clontarf, which took place just north of Dublin. Killed in action, the circumstances surrounding his death are uncertain. Many believe that Boru died in hand-to-hand combat, though some claim he was murdered by a Viking mercenary while praying in his tent. The battle took place on Good Friday, and according to legend, his remains are buried in the north end of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in the city of Armagh. Boru was the founder of the O’Brien Dynasty.
