A MAN has thanked two gardaí for saving his life after they rescued him from the sea in Co. Galway. Garda Randal Considine and Garda Shane Riddell have also been awarded Commendations with Distinction following the rescue at Kinvara on Thursday, September 19. GARDAÍ have appealed for information on the whereabouts of a Co. Laois teenager who has been missing for almost a week. A SHOP in Co. Limerick was celebrating this week after it was revealed it sold the winning ticket for Wednesday’s €5.5m Lotto Jackpot. Man arrested in Co. Louth after car hijacked in Belfast with girl inside

A MAN has been arrested in Co. Louth after a car was hijacked in Belfast with a 17-year-old girl inside. The vehicle was taken while it was parked in the Botanic Avenue area of the city with the girl in a passenger seat. April 4, 2007

April 4 2007 marked a symbolic moment in relations between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Prior to a meeting at Farmleigh in Dublin, then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and leader of the Democratic Unionist Party Ian Paisley shook hands. The handshake received much attention, especially because Paisley had previously publicly commented that he would not shake hands in public with the Taoiseach until a political settlement had been reached in Northern Ireland. Ahern described the handshake as ushering in a “new spirit of friendship.”
