Co. Donegal claimed the number one spot on National Geographic Traveller’s annual “Cool List” of recommendations for those who love travelling the world. Cliffs of Moher Experience Breaks Visitor Record

The 10 year anniversary of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience was celebrated with a tourism networking afternoon at the Experience’s headquarters in Liscannor, Co. Clare in February. Norwegian Air to Commence $69 Irish Flights

International budget airline Norwegian Air has announced plans to provide inexpensive flights to Ireland this coming July, with initial fares at $69 for a one-way ticket, though round trip rates will eventually settle at approximately $300. Ireland Tops Best Hotels of 2016

The Ballyfin Hotel of Co. Laois (pictured right) was named the best hotel in the world by Conde Nast Traveller in an October listing. Two other Irish hotels made the top ten, with Waterford Castle and the Lodge at at Ashford Castle in Co. December 15, 1930

Edna O’Brien, Irish novelist and short story writer, was born on this day in County Clare in 1930. Born to strictly religious parents, O’Brien described her childhood as suffocating. She was educated from 1941 to 1946 by the Sisters of Mercy. She then went on to receive a license in pharmacy in 1950. O’Brien turned to writing and published “The County Girls” in 1960. It was the first in a trilogy that was banned from Ireland. In 2009, she received the Bob Hughes Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Book Awards in Dublin.
