For her 93rd birthday, Maureen O’Hara will celebrate with a cause.

The Irish queen of the silver screen returned to the U.S. in late 2012 to live near her grandson Conor FitzSimmons and his family in Boise, Idaho after rumors circulated that she had been a victim of elder abuse by her former executive assistant.

O’Hara has kept a full and meaningful schedule throughout the past few months – most recently visiting the John Wayne Birthplace Museum in Winterset, Iowa – and her upcoming birthday on August 17 will be no exception: O’Hara will use the occasion as a platform to raise funds for the Justice Alliance for Vulnerable Adults (JAVA), a local elder abuse foundation.

On her birthday, O’Hara will greet fans at Boise’s Egyptian Theater before screenings of some of her biggest hits, including The Quiet Man and The Parent Trap. A gala at The Grove Hotel will kick off at 6:00 p.m., with special guests the McKay Sisters and Irish Dance Idaho and an address by Maureen herself. Net proceeds from the celebration will be donated to JAVA. “Maureen has picked a local charity that has a cause new and dear to her heart,” O’Hara’s manager and biographer John Nicoletti told our sister publication IrishCentral. “The event is first and foremost an opportunity for her to meet her new neighbors,” he added.

    DEAR MAUREEN O’HARA,

I am grateful to have seen many of your films. You are just as beautiful today as you were when you were younger, on film. It would give me the greatest happiness to meet you, however I know that wouldn’t be possible. Would it be possible to ask you for an autographed photo of You?
Thank you and God bless you for your film and now your charity for elder abuse. With my best, Deanne Michele Address is 794 Saint Arms Circle Reno NV 89506. Please send your favorite photo, I would find immense joy in that.
