High Court rules Legacy Act immunity provision breaches human rights

THE HIGH COURT in Belfast has ruled that part of the British Government's Legacy Act is in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). In his ruling, Mr Justice Colton said the Act's provision of immunity was incompatible with articles 2 and 3 of the ECHR. Man extradited from Northern Ireland to Lithuania to stand trial for child sexual offence

A MAN has been extradited from Northern Ireland to Lithuania as part of an investigation into a child sexual offence. The 31-year-old was extradited today by officers from the PSNI's International Policing Unit (IPU), working in partnership with Lithuanian police officers. POLICE in England have appealed for information to help trace wanted man James Carthy. The 32-year-old from Dunsfold in Surrey is wanted for breach of court bail. A first edition draft of a chapter from James Joyce’s “Ulysses” is sold for close to £900,000 at an auction on this date in 2001. The scribble-filled manuscript of the chapter, titled Eumaeus, was sold by Sotheby’s. It was expected to sell for more than £1m.
