POLICE have named a cyclist who died following a collision in north Belfast earlier this week as 58-year-old Gary McMahon. GARDAÍ investigating the murder of young man in Co. Limerick 17 years ago have renewed their appeal for information. The body of 19-year-old Jeffrey Hannan was found in O'Malley Park, Southill, Limerick at around 10.40am on November 22, 2007. A MAN has been arrested after a large quantity of suspected Class B drugs were found in a car at Belfast Harbour. The suspected herbal cannabis, which was concealed in a hide, has an estimated street value of up to £150,000. Birmingham bombings 50th anniversary marked with poignant ceremony

THE Birmingham pub bombings occurred fifty years ago on November 21, 1974, when bombs exploded in two public houses in central Birmingham — the Tavern in the Town and the Mulberry Bush. William Butler Yeats, Ireland’s most famous poet and one of the leading literary figures of the 20th century, was born in Sandyhurst, Co. Dublin on this day in 1865 to an upper class Protestant family. He spent much of his childhood in Co. Sligo, which heavily influenced Yeats’s natural themes, and he read classics like Shakespeare, Donne, Alighieri and Shelley. With Lady Gregory, he helped establish the Gaelic Literary Revival and founded the Abbey Theater in Dublin. He was the first Irishman awarded the Nobel Prize in 1923, followed by Shaw, Beckett and Heaney.
