GARDAÍ have made an arrest following the death of a man in Co. Kildare on Sunday. Responding to an alert at a residential proporty in the Sallins Park area of Sallins at around 3.15am, gardaí discovered a man in his 30s with fatal injuries. Dozens of firefighters tackling huge gorse fire in Mourne Mountains

DOZENS of firefighters are currently tackling a huge gorse fire in the Mourne Mountains in Co. Down. The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said eight appliances and 64 personnel were in attendance at the blaze on the Leitrim Road in Hilltown, around 10 miles from Newry. Co. Carlow hit-and-run now being treated as murder investigation

AN INVESTIGATION into a fatal hit-and-run in Co. Carlow last month has been upgraded to a murder inquiry. The collision involving a car and a motorcycle occurred at Sandbrook, Ballon at around 10.30pm on Wednesday, April 24. Four jailed over ‘nightmarish’ Co. Antrim attack and kidnapping that left victim with brain injury

FOUR men have been jailed for their role in a brutal attack and kidnapping that left the victim with a permanent brain injury. Political theorist Edmund Burke died at the age of 68 on this day in 1797. Born in Dublin to a successful solicitor who had converted from Catholicism to Anglicanism, Burke was raised in the same faith with similar moral values. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin and started a debate club. Thinking he wanted to go into law, he attended Middle Temple in England, but decided otherwise and left school in favor of a career in writing. He wrote several treatises, his most famous being “A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful.” Eventually, Burke became a member of parliament.
