Johnny Depp recently spoke to the Irish Independent promoting his remake of the popular film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Since 1995, Irish actor Pierce Brosnan has been James Bond. He has played the role of 007 in four movies: Golden Eye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies, (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another Day (2002). November 12, 1913 - July 17, 2005  Geraldine Fitzgerald, the beautiful and talented screen and stage actress, died from complications of Alzheimer's disease on July 17, 2005 at her Upper East Side home in New York. Oliver Cromwell was made Lord Protector of Ireland on this date in 1653. Following the English Civil War, his victory in overthrowing the Stuart monarchy and the execution of King James I, English Parliament declared Cromwell “Lord Protector” in England’s first attempt at a state ruled government. He held this position for five years (1653-58) of the eleven years in which England remained a republican Commonwealth government. Cromwell had a detrimental effect on Ireland in these years. He led an invasion of Ireland from 1649-1650. The public practice of Catholicism was banned and all Catholic owned land was confiscated.
