Bruce Morrison
Peace Broker
Probably best known for his Morrison Visa program some time ago, which gave thousands of undocumented Irish immigrants a chance of obtaining legal status in the U.S., Bruce Morrison has continued to work ceaselessly on Irish causes.
He is credited with being one of the Four Horsemen of President Clinton’s administration – following in hallowed footsteps indeed.
As a former Congressman from Connecticut, Morrison was chair of the House Immigration Committee. Once that problem was taken care of, he turned his attention to the soul-destroying problem of the conflict in Northern Ireland. A member of an Irish American group which lobbied for President Clinton’s election, with whom he attended Yale, Morrison was still around after the votes were counted to pressure the administration into honoring the President’s public stance on Irish issues.
A central figure in the lead up to the historic occasion of the IRA ceasefire, Morrison worked strenuously behind the scenes to facilitate the events which preceded the cessation.
