Daniel P. Moynihan
U.S. Senator
Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan has been described as the most intelligent man in the Senate. He certainly brings a voice of reason to Capitol Hill in the debate on Welfare and health care.
Senator Moynihan has also thrown his weight behind issues which involved Ireland, and was one of those who took on the might of the State Department in order to push for a visa for Gerry Adams, the Sinn Fein President. In this 20 years in the Senate he has consistently lobbied for the administration of the day to treat the Irish question fairly. Moynihan’s loyalty to the land of his ancestors was repaid in the form of a major Irish fundraising event, after which he won his reelection campaign by a landslide.
Senator Moynihan was born in Oklahoma, but grew up in Hell’s Kitchen on Manhattan’s West Side. He served as Ambassador to India and the United Nations, and as advisor to four presidents including Richard Nixon.
He is also heavily involved in the international Fund for Ireland, which has raised millions of dollars in economic aid for that county, Moynihan’s grand father came from County Kerry.
