
Gerald McGowan
Communications Whiz
Gerald McGowan has been practicing in the area of communications law since 1976 – a career which led to his becoming a successful businessman in the same field.
McCaw Communications, which was the world’s largest cellular company, traces its origins in 1982 to the offices of McGowan, and is still represented by the law firm of Lukas, McGowan, Nace and Gutierrez in Washington, DC.
McGowan is also an owner principal of Integrated North Coast, which develops and sells computer telephone software inter alia to NEC, and he recently sold a cellular system which he developed to McCaw Communications.
He is a past member of the board of directors of CTIA, the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association. McGowan is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the Federal Communications Bar Association, and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals in D.C.
A native of Michigan, McGowan was a classmate of Bill Clinton at Georgetown University, and is a Vietnam veteran. He worked as a legislative assistant to the late Senator Phillip Hart in the 70s.
