THE NUMBER of Irish renters at risk of homelessness and looking for help from national housing charity Threshold has risen by nearly a quarter in the past year. RESEARCHERS in Ireland and the UK have worked together to create a new tool which will help spot a rare form of blood cancer which shows up on the skin. New law requires learner drivers to sit driving test within four years

NEW legislation has been passed in Ireland requiring learner drivers to take their test within four years of receiving their permit. The move closes a loophole which saw learner drivers able to repeatedly renew their permits without ever taking a physical driving test. Irish Government approves establishment of Office of Veterans Affairs

AN Office of Veterans Affairs will be established in Ireland the Government has confirmed. The Irish government announced on this day in 1999 that the state had purchased the 550 acre site of the Battle of the Boyne for £9 million. In 1690, forces under rival claimants to the English throne, Catholic King James and Protestant King William, met at the River Boyne near Drogheda and fought. The battle was won by William, ending James’s quest to regain the crown and instituting the Protestant rule in Ireland. The site, which was purchased from an unidentified business man, was redeveloped and is now a tourist centre.
