FANS of the London Irish Rugby Club have launched a petition to support its return after more than a year spent in administration. The club filed for administration in July 2023 after facing financial difficulties which it was unable to overcome. Irishman celebrates 90th birthday by completing 165km Famine walk

AN IRISHMAN has celebrated turning 90 by completing a 165km walk across Ireland in memory of those forced to flee the country during the Great Famine. Jim Callery completed the National Famine Way walk, which runs from Strokestown in Co. Roscommon to Dublin, yesterday, which is also his 90th birthday. On this day, Eamon de Valera abolished the Oath of Allegiance, a provisional aspect in the Anglo-Irish treaty of 1921. This provisional aspect originally required all members of the Irish parliament to take an oath declaring their allegiance to the King. This date also marked when de Valera withheld land annuities from England.
