A TOTAL of 17 people were killed on Irish roads over the Christmas holidays data released by An Garda Síochána today has revealed. Missing person appeal for man last seen six years ago stood down as remains found

A MISSING person’s appeal for a man who was last seen six years ago has been stood down following the discovery of remains. Tomas Martinkus, was reported missing from his home in Strokestown, Co. Justice Minister ‘disappointed’ as barristers strike gets underway in Northern Ireland

NORTHERN IRELAND’S Justice Minister Naomi Long has expressed her “disappointment” as criminal barristers across the country commenced industrial action this week. AN appeal against a ruling ordering a public inquiry to be held into the murder of Sean Brown will be heard next week. Police remove ‘racially motivated’ signs from primary school gates

POLICE have removed two offensive signs that were hung on the gates of a primary school in Co. Armagh. An investigation is underway following the incident, which saw the signs erected outside the school in Lurgan. Audie Murphy, the most decorated combat soldier of World War II, died tragically on this day in a plane crash. He was 46. Audie, one of 9 children, was born on June 20, 1924, near the town of Kingston, Texas. “We were share-crop farmers,” he wrote. “And to say that the family was poor would be an understatement. Poverty dogged our every step.” When he was 18, Audie enlisted in the army. The slight, freckle-faced kid was turned down by the Marines and the paratroopers before the infantry took him. He went on to earn 21 medals for bravery and the Congressional Medal of Honor. He is buried in Arlington Cemetery.
