Gleeson family update: Don’t look now, Domhnall, but you’re no longer the only son of Brendan Gleeson making waves in show biz.  In recent years, Brian Gleeson has had roles in films such as the controversial Mother! and alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in Phantom Thread. He can also be seen in the much buzzed-about TV show (now available in the U.S. on Hulu) The Bisexual. And 2019 … [Read more...] about Irish Eye on Hollywood:

Details are few and far between about the film, the title of which was only recently released. In the last decade, Daniel Day-Lewis, one of the greatest actors of our time, has made only five films. But when he chooses to play a part he commits to it fully, as his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg’s latest biopic exemplifies. Between roles? It’s all about his family, he tells Patricia Danaher. Daniel Day-Lewis is in an extremely good mood. He’s in such … [Read more...] about The Genius of Day-Lewis Brings Lincoln Alive

Aidan Quinn.

At the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City in May, two Irish movies quickly sold out: Jim Sheridan's In America and Aidan Quinn's Song for a Raggy Boy. Sheridan's movie, based on his own experience as a recently arrived immigrant to New York, left not a dry eye in the house. Release date is set for November. July 6, 1907

Ireland’s Crown Jewels are found missing on this day in 1907, just before days before a state visit by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The theft remains a mystery to this day. Arthur Vicars, Officer of Arms at Dublin Castle, held the jewels in his office and publicly accused his second in command, Francis Shackleton. Shackleton was exonerated and the case was never solved. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used this historical event as the influence for his Sherlock Holmes story “The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans.”
