December 1, 1494

Poynings Law was enacted in Ireland on this day in 1494. It placed Irish parliament under the authority of the English parliament, forbid the assembly from meeting without the King’s permission and called for all Irish parliamentary legislation to be approved by the King. Poynings Law and this date marked the beginning of English dominance via Tudor rule in Ireland.
