The 11th annual Tom Quinlan lecture at Glucksman Ireland House NYU will be held on Friday, December 2nd at 2:00 pm. As in past years, the “lecture” will feature a poetry reading by a prominent Irish poet. President Michael D. Higgins was in New York in September for the United Nations General Assembly, where he attended many high-level bilateral meetings with other world leaders. Forrest Reid, Irish novelist and literary critic, was born on this day in Belfast in 1875. To this day, Reid is regarded amongst the likes of J.M. Barrie and Hugh Walpole as a pre-war British boyhood novelist. His most famous work was Young Tom, for which he won a James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1944.
