February 11, 2021 by Leave a Comment

Join Glucksman Ireland House NYU on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at 7pm EST for the 2021 Virtual Gala. While extraordinary circumstances prevent us from celebrating in person, we will gather as a community for a fun evening featuring the best of Irish culture, music, poetry, business, journalism, and public service.

Taoiseach (Prime Minister), Micheál Martin T.D. will join the virtual festivities GIH celebrates three distinguished honorees:

  • Mary McAleese, former President of Ireland and Chancellor of Trinity College Dublin, will receive the Seamus Heaney Award for Arts and Letters. President McAleese and Seamus Heaney share the same belief in reconciliation, justice, and the possibilities of our common humanity.
  • Anne M. Finucane, Vice Chairman, Bank of America and Chair, Bank of America Europe, will receive the Lewis L. Glucksman Leadership Award. In addition to her global business leadership, Anne is a major philanthropist in Ireland and America.
  • Dan Barry, prize-winning reporter, and columnist at The New York Times and author of several books will receive the inaugural Pete Hamill Award for Journalistic Excellence.

Entertainment for the gala includes Joanie Madden, Mick Moloney, and young emerging American Irish dancer Morgan Bullock.

Glucksman Ireland House is renowned for its teaching, research, and community outreach and stands as a beacon of Irish and Irish-American academic and cultural achievement in the United States and beyond. During this unusual academic year, we continue to pursue our mission with an emphasis on social justice and diversity. We are especially proud of our Black, Brown, and Green Voices Project, an archival documentation and public humanities initiative that gives voice to the diversity of the Irish diaspora.

Proceeds from the Gala will help support Glucksman Ireland House’s academic and public outreach activity and a donation will be made to the NYU Students Emergency Fund to assist those suffering hardship from Covid-19.

We are pleased to make this Gala free and open to the Irish American and Irish community in America and around the world. But we are appealing to your continued generosity to help support the continued teaching, researching, and publishing of Irish and Irish American Studies in the United States. Donors will be recognized in the Gala event.

It is always a fun and inspiring event so please join us and encourage others to do so, even if they cannot afford to make a donation. To learn more about the 2021 honorees and the gala event view the full invitation and register today.
