Derry, Ireland: Anne Cadwallader and Brian Dooley discuss their latest works, which focus on human rights.
Brian, who is a Senior Advisor at Human Rights First and a Professor of Practice at Queens University Belfast, is the author of Black and Green: The Fight for Civil Rights in Northern Ireland & Black America, and other works. His latest book is called Defiant, and tells the story of 11 dedicated human rights activists across Europe.
Anne’s latest book, Crossing Over, is a work of fiction. It comes after her two acclaimed nonfiction books about Northern Ireland: Holy Cross: The Untold Story and Lethal Allies: British Collusion in Ireland, and draws on Cadwallader’s own experience as a BBC Northern Ireland journalist during the Troubles. In 2009, Anne left journalism to work as an investigator and case worker at the Pat Finucane Centre for Human Rights; a non-party political, anti-sectarian human rights group advocating non-violent resolutions of conflict. This is her first non-fiction book.
Both these writers, who are London-born have contributed many reports and interviews to Irish America magazine over the years. We are delighted that their books have earned widespread critical acclaim.
